Portland restaurant to offer Thai, Vietnamese cuisine under one roof
By Alexis Wells, Mainebiz
A Portland family-owned restaurant group known for its Vietnamese and Thai cuisine plans to offer both at a single location in the city’s Old Port neighborhood starting this fall.
Veranda Kitchen & Bar has signed a seven-year lease for 1,381 square feet at 425 Fore St., according to East Brown Cow, which is involved in the Old Port Square development.
Pete Harrington of Malone Commercial Brokers brokered the lease.
Veranda will take over the space from Ladyfish, a pop-up seafood eatery that closed earlier this week. Veranda Kitchen & Bar plans to use the existing fast-casual restaurant buildout and outdoor patio along Fore Street.
An exact opening date has not been announced.
About the Restaurant
The new location will expand the business founded in 2009 by husband-and-wife team Hai Pham and Sonka Nguyen in Portland’s East Deering neighborhood. They own Veranda Thai at 9 Veranda St. and Veranda Noodle Bar across the street, which focuses on Vietnamese cuisine.
The couple later opened Veranda Asian Market at 695 Forest Ave in Portland, Veranda Kitchen & Bar at 672 Main St. in Westbrook and most recently, another Veranda Kitchen & Bar in Coral Springs, Florida.
The Old Port restaurant will serve both Vietnamese and Thai dishes, including pho, the Vietnamese noodle soup dish.
“Portland has been home to our family and our restaurants for many years, and we’re excited to bring Veranda Kitchen & Bar to Old Port Square,” said Nguyen. “We look forward to welcoming longtime guests and meeting new diners and visitors from around the world.”
The restaurant will join Barkada, a Filipino restaurant, and Gelato Fiasco.
